Persian Aigrette Accessories is an independent accessory line that presents the first and only inestimable Persian clutches, that are made out of precious and historical fabric called 'Termeh.' Termeh is a 2500-year-old Persian hand made fabric, which is normally woven out of silk or wool since the Achaemenian Empire (532 B.C) in Yazd province, Iran. Due to the difficulty of producing Termeh and the advent of mechanized weaving, few factories remain in Iran that produces traditionally woven Termeh. One of the most important goals of the Persian Aigrette Accessories is to bring Termeh to attention of Iranians and non-Iranians in order to support the local weavers in Iran and help them keep this tradition alive. Aigrette (Botteh): The design motif known as paisley in the west is taken from the ancient Aryan botteh motif. Botteh is a Persian word meaning bush, shrub, a thicket (a small dense forest of small trees or bushes), bramble, herb. Some would even take it to mean a palm leaf, cluster of leaves (perhaps as a repeated pattern) and flower bud. In Kashmir in the north of the Indian sub-continent, the name used to describe the motif is buta. While in recent history, the design is primarily connected to silk and wool termeh fabric and carpets from Yazd and Kerman in Iran as well as woolen scarves from Kashmir, the design can be found in fabric and carpets from throughout the Aryan areas of influence and trade. ABOUT TERMEH: There is an argument between the researchers about Termeh's origin. Some of them believe that Termeh has been made in Kashmir and then brought to Iran. Others say that Iranians have been the innovator of weaving Termeh and this material has been taken in to concentration like other handicrafts in other parts of the world. (Kashmir is as historical region divided between India and Pakistan) However, it is a real fact that Iranian Termeh in comparison with what ever produced in Kashmir has much more better quality and it has different coloration and designs. The only reason that made the Kashmir Termeh famous is using a kind of string, which produced by wild goat's wool. Besides the main place where it lives is Himalaya mountain range located north of India. Therefore, Kashmir Termeh weavers have had more availability to it while Iranians had to use fleece. TERMEH WEAVING: In the past, the first step in Termeh weaving was preparing its raw materials. Therefore, it was very important to be careful while preparing wool, washing and drying it. Weaving Termeh needs good wool, which has all fibers. Usually the designs of Iranian Termeh were the result of the co-operation between two main persons; an expert and a worker called "Goushvareh-kesh." Weaving Termeh was a very careful, sensitive and time consuming work that a good weaver could produce only 25 to 30 centimeters in a day! The background colors, which are used in Termeh, are jujube red, light red, green, orange and black. Termeh as a valuable cloth has many different usages so it is weaved on different sizes and shapes. It is also a very durable cloth in which fixed colors are used so one can wash them with any kind of washer.
