The floral motif that adores Takht-e Jamshid (Persepolis) palace is a sacred Lotus flower with twelve petals. In Zoroastrianism, number twelve was the symbol of perfection. Each petal is dedicated to an angel (Yazata) that houses the twelve zodiac signs. Ancient cosmologists believed these angels (Farvardin, Ordibehesht, Khordad…) had a direct influence on human life and destiny.
